Fall 2024 Teach Me Tennis Tournament
Sunday, November 17th at 2:30 PM
Downtown Rome Tennis Center – 301 W 3rd St
We are so excited your child has decided to participate in the Teach Me Tennis Tournament on Sunday, November 17th at 2:30 PM this season! Below is some important information parents need to keep in mind when preparing for the tournament:
- Bring lawn chairs and water bottles for your child and for yourself. We will have some bleacher seating but expect a large crowd, so any seating you bring will definitely help.
- Arrive before 2:15 PM. The tournament will begin at 2:30 PM, so please register at your school’s table well before this time.
- We have dropped off t-shirts at all of the schools, and if they haven’t yet, your child will receive it by their last session. If you did not order your child a shirt, please have them wear a shirt representing their school.
- Don’t let your child forget their racquet!
- Please know the tournament will be at the Downtown Rome Tennis Center at 301 W 3rd St.
- If you do not expect your child to play in the tournament please let your coach know as soon as possible. They are working hard to create teams from their rosters and need to know who plans to play.
- Finally, please note that because this is a volunteer-heavy event we cannot reschedule the tournament should we get rained out. If we are rained out players will have the opportunity to participate in the following tournament in 2024.
THE TEACH ME TENNIS TOURNAMENT
The Teach Me Tennis Tournament is your child’s chance to show off everything they have learned over the program’s six sessions. The tournament takes place at the end of each semester’s class at a multi-court tennis facility. All participants who signed up for the after school program can play. The Rules for the tournament are below.
Tournament Rules
Players will play to five points. Winner serves after every point.
The first player to reach five points wins the game and advances to the hula-hoop, and has a chance to score a point for their team by hitting a ball in the target (hula-hoop). The losing player remains at the court and keeps the points they scored versus a new player of the opposite team who starts with 0.
The winning player will stand behind a line and attempt to serve a ball into a hula-hoop hanging from the fence. If the ball goes into the hoop, they score one point for their team and return to the back of the line. If it does not go in, they return to the back of the line and wait for the next available court.
After 15 or 20 minutes, the team with the most points scored from the hula-hoop wins.
